Our History
Jogeshwari Kelavani Mandal's Smt. Surajba Vidya Mandir was founded in 1969 by visionaries who laid the foundation of an educational institution with an intent to give formal education to those students who lived in and around Jogeshwari –East.
In the wake of a few tragic accidents at the Amboli railway crossing led to the school being established on the other side of the railway tracks as a service to the community at large, where no schools existed. Mr. M.I Patel, Mr.J.C Vakil, Mr. Rashmikant Desai, Mr. Ramesh Merchant, Mr. Kanubhai Mehta, Mr. Shirish Patel,Mr.Vitthaldas Parekh and many more
undertook the challenge of establishing this institution.
Its journey from a humble ground floor centre of learning to its present day evolution as a three storied institution was fuelled by effective administration by management and able faculty and enthusiastic alumni.
The school has two mediums of instruction. The Gujarati medium is fully aided by the government. It’s a full- fledged school having classes from Std. I to X. Running parallel in the same premises is the English medium unaided private school- government recognized- SSC board ,classes resuming from Nursery to Std. X.
Both the schools have qualified and experienced staff. Specialized staff are also appointed for co-curricular and extra – curricular activities. Some teachers are assigned the task of remedial classes to taking up special education classes. Counselling is an important functionary of the school system. The school facilitates special training and coaching for competitive exams.
Besides an effective teaching program, there is a wide variety of co-curricular activities and enrichment programs to ensure that there is abundant opportunity for all to develop their potential and excel in their areas of talent or interest.
Just as the very edifice came up in stages ,so has the standard and status of the school. It has moved from ‘good to better’ and we envisage a time to be the ‘best’ soon.
